The prurient side
Monday, 2 August 2010 All in one day: 2 gonorrheas, a PID, 3 paraphimoses, and a pair of never before seen primary amenorrheas… and we gave out 75 injections of depot medroxyprogesterone… WOW!!
All fine and well but to show that one can never relax, ponder the following:
A 23 year old woman entered, 5 months pregnant and having a chronic cough… Two common conditions in East Timor. On teasing out her history she reluctantly revealed that her husband died a year ago of what she was told was AIDS.
”Well, were you tested?”
"Yes, but I never picked up the results.”
"Are you married again?”
"I have a new boyfriend"
Repeat test HIV positive… a call to ask her to please return to the clinic, but cell phone shut off on 3 successive attempts to make contact. Luckily we have address and all necessary details. Monday the mobile team quietly engages.
Dr Dan Murphy is the head physician at Bairo Pite Clinic

Wow I can't believe she never picked up the results, then not being able to be contacted. This is her life and her health we are talking about here.
