Maria – Community Birth Attendent

Maria has spent 3.5 months shadowing BPC midwives, pictured here with one of our Senior Midwives – Mana Rima checking her kit bag. Her stay has been supported by an international Rotary grant. Maria will return to the remote rural village of Weberek where she will assist qualified Midwife Lucinda at the mission clinic as a volunteer.

Maria has been following a programme devised by ACU and her task will be to encourage the women in her village to attend ante natal clinics, deliver at a clinic or health post and promoting exclusive breast feeding and improved hygiene and sanitation , as well as promoting the value of baby vaccines.

This programme has also included a one day seminar on Domestic Violence and referral pathways for victims, delivered by our friends at PRADET , sponsored by Project Plus One. Dr Dan congratulated Maria and handed her travel expenses for the long journey back to her village.
